Off to the Maldives? Resort Wi-Fi does not always reach the beach, the jetty or the speedboat. A travel eSIM keeps your phone online for photos, video calls and transfers.

😓
The usual problemRoaming from your home network can be costly for the data you get, and a local SIM means a queue, paperwork and a new number.
📶
The simple fixA travel eSIM is a digital SIM: buy it online, install it at home, and data works the moment you land.
📱
Keep your own numberYour home SIM stays in the phone for calls, WhatsApp and bank OTPs. The eSIM only handles data.

Before you fly: 5-minute checklist

  1. Check your phone supports eSIM and is unlocked.
  2. Buy your Maldives plan – see Maldives plans from $40.00 – with code CONNECT.
  3. Install it at home on Wi-Fi by scanning the QR code from your email.
  4. Keep your home SIM on so calls and OTP texts still reach you.
  5. When you land, switch on the eSIM line and set it for mobile data.

Maldives travel tips

  • Speedboat and seaplane transfers are easier to follow with data on your phone.
  • Upload photos and videos on Wi-Fi when you can, and keep eSIM data for everything else.
  • Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi before your flight.

Questions travellers ask

Does mobile data work at the resorts?

Most inhabited and resort islands have mobile coverage, but signal can be weaker far out at sea. Check the coverage shown for your plan before you buy.

Can I buy the eSIM before I travel?

Yes – that is the best way. Buy it online, install it at home on Wi-Fi, and switch it on when you land.

Will I still get bank OTP messages from home?

Yes, if your home SIM stays in the phone with roaming for calls and texts switched on. Use the eSIM for data and your home SIM for calls and OTP texts.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Most recent iPhones (XS and newer), Samsung Galaxy S and Z models and Google Pixel phones support eSIM. Your phone must also be unlocked. You can check under Settings: if you see “Add eSIM” or “Add mobile plan”, it is supported.
